QA Automation Engineer

Mid • Remote

Lisbon, Pt-11, Portugal

Quick Facts

  • Hands-on QA automation role embedded in Agile/Scrum product teams
  • Build and maintain automated tests across API, UI, integration, regression, and data layers
  • Integrate test suites into CI/CD and apply AI-assisted testing techniques

Description

You will turn the QA automation strategy into working automation every sprint, working closely with a QA AI Automation Staff Engineer who defines frameworks, standards, and metrics. The role focuses on writing maintainable automated tests (API/UI/integration/regression), migrating manual regression suites where it’s most valuable, and using AI tools responsibly to accelerate test generation and test data creation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, write, and maintain automated tests across API, UI, integration, regression, and data layers
  • Translate user stories and acceptance criteria into automated test cases and scenarios
  • Extend shared automation frameworks with reusable components, utilities, fixtures, and test data builders
  • Migrate manual regression suites to automation (prioritize high-risk, frequently executed flows)
  • Keep suites fast, stable, and trustworthy: fix flaky tests and remove redundant coverage
  • Use AI tools (LLMs/Copilot) to generate test cases, test data, and automation code; review outputs critically
  • Pilot AI-driven techniques such as self-healing locators, test generation from specifications, and AI-assisted failure triage
  • Use test analytics and defect data to prioritize high-risk areas
  • Integrate automated suites into CI/CD (GitHub Actions standard) so tests run on commits, pull requests, and releases
  • Configure quality gates, test reporting, and dashboards
  • Manage test environments and test data with reproducibility and version control
  • Track QA KPIs (automation coverage, pass rates, defect leakage, execution time)
  • Support incident management: triage/reproduce production issues, validate fixes/hotfixes, contribute to RCA/postmortems, and add regression tests
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum rituals to raise testability and reduce risk early
  • Pair with developers on shift-left unit and contract testing practices; coach junior/manual QA engineers
  • Provide structured feedback to the QA Staff Engineer so frameworks and standards keep improving

Requirements

  • 4+ years in QA or software testing; at least 3 years writing test automation in production codebases
  • Strong coding skills in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java; comfortable reading code in the others
  • Hands-on experience with automation frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, REST-assured, or equivalent
  • Strong API testing skills: REST, JSON, authentication, contract, and schema validation
  • Ability to run manual end-to-end and integration testing where automation isn’t practical
  • Experience running automated tests in CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps)
  • Practical use of AI tools (LLMs/Copilot) to generate test cases/test data/code with critical review
  • Good Git, code review, and clean-code practices for test code
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams
  • Fluent English (primary working language)

Benefits

  • Hands-on, delivery-focused automation work using defined frameworks, standards, and metrics
  • Embedded collaboration with developers, product owners, and DevOps to build quality shift-left
  • Use and evaluate AI-assisted testing techniques in daily practice and share learnings with the broader QA community
