Description

You will lead complex backend projects within the Backend Functional Team, collaborating remotely to solve product issues that affect an all-in-one privacy solution. The work focuses on building pragmatic, performant, and testable backend code using Perl (Version 5), Go, and Node.js, including AI-assisted answers for Search and sophisticated data processing pipelines. Over time, you will mentor other engineers and support the growth of the Backend team.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex backend projects across key company-wide objectives

• Implement and integrate AI-assisted answers into the Search product while maintaining a privacy-first approach

• Improve Duck.ai features to support a competitive AI chat alternative for free and paying users

• Build data processing pipelines that maintain search relevancy

• Collaborate with remote peers to solve product issues

• Mentor engineers as the role matures

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional backend experience powering consumer-facing products

• Ability to reason about technical tradeoffs in terms of user impact

• Familiarity with AI agent tooling: evaluation frameworks, RAG pipelines, and prompt engineering

• Strong understanding of complex data structures and algorithms

• Data-driven analytical skills for decision-making and experiment-oriented delivery

• Solid project management ability

• Excellent written and verbal communication

• Experience leading and mentoring experienced engineers

• Ability to attend camera-on meetings via video conferencing

• Travel about two times per year (all-hands meetup and team retreat)

• Pass a background check as a condition of joining
