Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience programming in C++.
  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.
  • Experience with cloud computing and cloud APIs.
  • Experience with software architecture and scalability.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • Experience in long-term technology tests across interdependent services, including scalability, maintainability, deployability, reliability, and supportability.
  • Experience in driving software architecture evolution both tactically and strategically.
  • Ability to influence across multiple teams and geos.

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you will lead our control plane or service layer, driving architectural and infrastructural evolution. You will enable team/organization scaling and exert influence across Software Engineers spanning across all areas of the Dataproc service, and well beyond.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $248,000-$349,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.
  • Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
  • Define product differentiating features in an ambiguous problem space.
  • Build high-impact customer-facing features which make Cloud Dataproc the best place to run Hadoop and Spark in the cloud.
  • Influence and oversight across big data open-source initiatives including contributions to Spark, Flink, Presto, and more.
