Job Description – Test Release Manager (German Required)

Location: Hybrid (approx. 30% on-site in Germany)

Languages: German (B2+), English (B1+)

Contract Length: 6 months, with possibility of extension


About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Test Release Manager who will coordinate release planning, delivery, and execution across multiple subprojects. The role focuses on ensuring smooth test cycles, optimal use of testing windows, and high-quality, compliant releases. You will act as the central communication and coordination point for all project streams.


Key Responsibilities

Release Planning & Coordination

  • Independently plan, manage, and monitor release activities.

  • Create and maintain the release calendar, manage timelines, dependencies, and cross-stream coordination.

  • Serve as the central contact point for all teams involved in builds, deployments, and test cycles.

Quality Assurance & Testing Readiness

  • Review test criteria, defect status, and release readiness prior to each release.

  • Ensure conditions for go-live are met and documented.

Build & Deployment Oversight

  • Organize build creation and environment deployment activities.

  • Ensure availability of rollback plans and contingency options.

Risk & Issue Management

  • Identify risks, blockers, and conflicts early; escalate as needed.

  • Develop mitigation strategies and ensure transparency across all teams.

Communication & Documentation

  • Provide regular release status updates and publish release notes.

  • Ensure clear and transparent communication of changes, timelines, and risks.

  • Maintain release documentation, ensuring audit readiness and traceability.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to standards, policies, regulatory requirements, and audit guidelines.

Collaboration Across Methodologies

  • Work effectively in environments using both agile and traditional delivery approaches.

  • Provide temporary support for related roles when required (e.g., during absences).


Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or related field;

  • or vocational training plus 5+ years relevant experience.

  • 3–5 years of experience as a Release Manager.

  • Proven experience in both agile and traditional project environments.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • Release & deployment management

    • Test & quality management

    • Risk management & compliance

    • Project coordination and stakeholder alignment

  • Practical experience with:

    • Jira and/or Azure DevOps

    • CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI)

    • Version control systems (Git, Bitbucket)

  • German: B2+
