We are looking for a Java Lead to take ownership of key backend initiatives and guide a growing engineering team working on a global Life Sciences platform. This role is ideal for someone who wants to combine hands-on development with technical leadership, architectural decision-making, and shaping delivery standards. You will drive the development of core services used by major pharmaceutical companies worldwide, working in a stable organisation with real-world impact. 🙋‍♀️

✅ Your responsibilities:

Lead the development of core backend services, ensuring architectural consistency, scalability, and reliability.
Design, develop, and maintain Java-based components and new product features.
Make technical decisions, guide system architecture, and participate in solution design discussions.
Mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and support knowledge sharing within the team.
Collaborate with product, QA, and cross-functional engineering teams to refine requirements and plan delivery.
Work with AWS cloud services, SQL databases, and Tomcat application environments.
Support production troubleshooting and continuous improvements across the platform.
Contribute to deployment automation and operational excellence.

🧠 Our requirements:

Minimum 7 years of experience in backend development with Java.
Proven experience in leading or mentoring development teams.
Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
Experience with AWS (core services) and working in cloud-based environments.
Solid knowledge of SQL databases and data modelling.
Hands-on experience with application servers such as Tomcat.
Ability to design scalable backend systems and take ownership of technical decisions.
Familiarity with REST APIs, CI/CD practices, and version control tools.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

Exposure to Big Data technologies such as Hadoop or Spark.
Experience with Apache Kafka or other event-driven systems.
Ability to handle minor frontend tasks in React when needed.
Experience in medical, healthcare, or Life Sciences projects.
