Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering or Telecom Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in DWDM or TCP/IP or system design operations methodology.
  • Experience working with field operation technicians, engineers, contractors, or vendors in a telecommunications environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Layer 1 optical transmissions systems, layer 3 routing TCP/IP, wireless networking, network design, or operations.
  • Experience with OTDR, bert test sets and basic linux experience (i.e., run commands, move directories).
  • Experience in telecommunications.
  • Familiarity with network troubleshooting and testing tools.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with various partners, proactively propose solutions, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of rack layouts, fiber infrastructure, and power design.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.

As a Network Implementation Engineer, you will be the initial point of our efforts to execute deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide. You will work with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Design and Infrastructure Engineers, Field Engineers within Google, as well as construction and telecommunications vendors and contractors, all to position your team and organization for success.

The Network Delivery Implementation team builds and operates the future of Google's global network, connecting billions of users to our expanding services and enabling the world's imagination with dependable, universal connectivity. We own the full network life-cycle in our data centers and metro points of presence, driving continuous reliability, efficiency, and rapid service activation to meet the ever-growing demands of a connected world, with the goal to make connectivity between every machine and every user on the Internet.

From the foundation, we are involved from site acquisition to construction and are accountable for what space and power is delivered. We're involved in every facet of network delivery from architecture and design to installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $102,000-$146,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Oversight and Quality Assurance (QA) of installation technicians for rack, stack and installation of networking equipment.
  • Commission and test routers, optical transport equipment, and other network devices in new and existing network nodes across Google's global network.
  • Generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership and guidance during deployment activities.
  • Work closely with project management, network engineering and rest of the engineering team to identify in advance potential problems in network installations, including in the areas of facility power Alternating Current/Direct Current (AC/DC), cooling, security/access, rack layout and cable management.
  • Own network documentation, updating and maintaining network drawings and plans.
