Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with 3D Graphics, C++, Game Engines.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience leading the design and implementation of novel 3D user experiences with an ability to apply design principles to solve complex interaction problems.
  • Knowledge of 3D math, including trigonometry, 3D transforms, and linear algebra, applied to solve challenging visual or interaction problems.
  • Ability to architect, implement, and debug complex, real-time 3D systems within a game engine (e.g., Unity, Unreal) or an equivalent internal framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to create new human-centered experiences from scratch involving elements such as screenwriting, interaction, motion, color, music and sound.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, develop, and polish the foundational 3D interactions and user interface components for Android XR, from initial concept to final, shippable product.
  • Develop and implement scalable and stable systems to choreograph animations, motion, and audiovisual behaviors across the entire Android XR system, ensuring a cohesive and delightful user experience.
  • Collaborate closely with UX designers, product managers, and other engineering teams to devise new XR experiences for upcoming headsets and glasses that provide delight and unique user value.
  • Optimize rendering and interaction runtimes to deliver responsive UI on mobile XR hardware, maintaining performance and quality.
  • Advocate and build new tools, workflows, and best practices that accelerate the team's end-to-end iteration cycle, enabling rapid experimentation and a quality final product.
