Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
- 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 5 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
- 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
- Experience in Consumer Electronics device software such as identity authentication, permission authorization, platform abstraction, local network transport, and CI/CD.
- Experience with on-device software development (using C++/Java/Kotlin) within the Linux/Android framework or GMSCore.
- Excellent cross-organizational collaboration and communication skills.

Our team focuses on building software on-device for smarter and helpful user experience. We are looking for software engineers who are enthusiastic about smart home, and utilizing new technologies such as Matter, Edge computing and on-device infra to bring our smart home ecosystem into next generation and scale to more devices both first-party (1P) and third-party (3P).
The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Design, build and improve our on-device capabilities and infra for Google Home Platform.
- Unify and scale the GHP platform across various OSs (e.g., Linux/Android/Fuchsia) with high velocity and low maintenance.
- Unify and scale the GHP to build a broader ecosystem, both for first-party (1P) and third-party (3P) devices.
- Design and build on-device infrastructure to empower new use cases on GHP, such as home automation, home intelligence on-device model management and more.
