Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience designing mechanical components (e.g. plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes).
- 5 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks.
- 3 years of mechanical design experience within the consumer electronics industry, focused on camera modules or their constituent components (e.g. lenses, actuators, optical substrate packaging, comprehensive camera product system assembly integration).
- Experience with Tolerance Analysis, Root Sum of Squares (RSS), Monte Carlo simulations, statistical process control, design for experiment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in consumer product design.
- Experience shipping multiple consumer products in a lead or executive engineer role.
- Experience collaborating with suppliers on part manufacturing and final assembly, including onsite factory support.
- Experience in system integration, including electro-mechanical components (audio, display, camera, antenna, etc.), waterproofing, thermals, grounding, or product architecture.
- Experience in the manufacturing and testing of camera modules or their constituent components, with expertise in integrating camera modules and their components into consumer product systems.
About the job
As a Senior Product Design Engineer for the Tech Engineering Imaging and Vision (TEIV) team, you will be responsible for the comprehensive design and development of camera modules from concept to production, including managing the Mechanical Control Outline (MCO) and internal mechanical structures and geometries.
In this role, you will lead camera product design, ensure seamless integration into the final product, and serve as the primary mechanical design representative across all cross-functional teams.
Furthermore, you will function as the mechanical expert for the camera hardware team, undertaking critical tasks such as reviewing supplier drawings, conducting Design for Manufacturing (DfM) analyses, performing detailed tolerance analyses, evaluating emergent opto-mechanical technologies, and addressing design challenges to integrate advanced camera systems.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Responsibilities
- Take ownership of and review the mechanical design development of camera modules, guiding the process from initial concept to mass production in collaboration with both internal cross-functional teams and external partners across Asia.
- Generate and maintain clear and precise camera mechanical technical documentations, including specifications, design guidelines, change justifications and all necessary 2D/3D CAD deliverables.
- Review and enhance camera integration strategies with the product system teams.
- Conduct comprehensive failure analyses and implement corrective actions to resolve issues identified during reliability and factory testing.
- Collaborate with technology partners and vendors to advance camera module design technology, and design prototypes for the purpose of Proof of Concept validation.
