  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.
  • Experience with Performance optimization.
  • Experience with C++ and software architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • Experience in building storage solutions involving hardware offloads.
  • Track record of driving multi-year engineering projects across multiple teams.
  • Track record of defining technical strategy for major software products.

Google Cloud Storage (GCS) is an object storage system that supports both external Google Cloud Platform (GCP) customers and internal Google services. GCS is GCP's storage product and a major contributor to GCP business. The Serving Fabric team is responsible for the upper half of the data serving stack in GCS and also for client-side software interacting with GCS.

As a Senior Staff Engineer for this team, you will be responsible for key aspects of technical direction and innovation strategy for GCS, with direct impact over critical business objectives.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $248,000-$349,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Iterate through ideas and prototypes in a small team to identify viable solutions to hard technical problems.
  • Define and drive a technical roadmap in the GCS Offloads domain, balancing short and long-term technology investments, new product launches and tech debt reduction.
  • Drive adoption of hardware and software innovations across GCS stack by influencing teams and stakeholders across Storage, Networking, Compute and Platforms.
  • Review technical designs from the team, guide technical discussions and grow technical leaders.
  • Uphold a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and respect.
