Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture (Java/Kotlin).
  • Experience with audio ML algorithm and pipeline design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • Experience with ML/Gemini and AGSA.
  • Experience with Android app development and Compose/Android Views.
  • Experience with Google Sound.
  • Expertise in Android Frameworks (modifying AOSP, Android services).

The Pixel Now Playing team works closely with Android Platform, Gemini, Audio ML, AGSA, Android System Intelligence, Youtube music, Audio subsystem and external partner teams to bring the best on-device ambient music detection, exclusive to Google Pixel. Our team is responsible for working on delighting users with the rich Now Playing app as well as multiple audio experiences exclusive to Pixel.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Drive complete development cycles of new Pixel Audio experiences projects, from requirements and design through implementation and establishing test plans.
  • Work with ML, Gemini, and AGSA to integrate features in the Now Playing app.
  • Architect and implement features such as new UI experiences for the Now Playing app.
  • Develop the team’s infrastructure by implementing new systems in areas such as telemetry, on-device diagnostics, and updatability.
  • Collaborate closely with Android platform teams on enabling new generations of Pixel: SysUI, Settings, Android System Intelligence. Develop in-depth expertise in audio technologies as well as Android framework code and Android app development.
