Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in a technical, UX, or design setting, or related experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Generative AI technologies, especially large language models (LLMs) and coding models.
  • Experience in software development for the Android ecosystem.
  • Experience building or contributing to developer tools, IDEs (especially for IntelliJ/Android Studio or VS Code), plugins, or command-line interfaces.
  • Experience in building full-stack interactive prototypes.
  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, Svelte) and back-end development (e.g., Python, Node.js).
  • Ability to creatively solve problems and build interactive experiences.

As a UX Engineer, you'll work on the front end of our products in a challenging, fast-paced environment, helping to bridge UX best practices and production execution. You’ll demonstrate your creativity, analytical skills, and knowledge of user facing technologies to enable efficient, high quality execution and communications and launch innovative features to a global audience.

The AIR SWE Agents team in the AI Innovation and Research (AIR) organization in Platforms and Devices, that focuses on developing Software Engineering (SWE) agents that leverage latest advances in multimodal AI and coding models to revolutionize the way we develop software for Platforms and Devices, significantly reducing the toil faced by ~25k developers within Platforms and Devices and all over the world.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $178,000-$265,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of researchers, product managers, and software engineers to conceptualize and rapidly build a wide range of interactive prototypes that explore novel user experiences for AI-powered software development.
  • Design and build a range of prototypes for new IDE integrations, standalone agentic UIs, and other tools that help developers throughout the SDLC — ranging from prototypes and concept explorations to more robust, internally scalable versions.
  • Effectively communicate and demonstrate your prototypes to a wide range of stakeholders, clearly articulating the underlying technology and the user value of your creations.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams across P&D (e.g., Android Studio, Chrome Dev Tools) to translate futuristic concepts into actionable steps, influencing product roadmaps with tangible, working demos.
