Senior Software Engineer

Join the forefront of sustainable innovation at Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) as a Senior Software Engineer. In this pivotal role, you'll be instrumental in driving the sustainable evolution of our core infrastructure and foundational technologies that power Microsoft's leading online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.
 
Imagine leading data center automation design, deploying and maintaining datacenter infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and efficiency. You'll have ownership of automated systems monitoring, troubleshooting issues, and implementing automation to optimize operations. Specific scope includes design and implementation of orchestration of API interactions across a large volume of utilization. With over 200 data centers spanning 32 countries and millions of servers, our global infrastructure is a playground for ambitious data scientists eager to make a tangible impact.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience in a software/automation role.
• 2+ years of experience working with software engineering teams, hardware engineering teams and data science teams.

Other Requirements: 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated experience with Azure DevOps, including infrastructure automation, deployment, and adherence to best practices. 
• Hands-on expertise with Linux image creation and environment management. 
• Proficiency in Python programming. 
• Deep understanding of API-to-API development and architectural design. 
• Experience deploying and automating operations for Kubernetes compute environments.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

• Design and deployment of process tooling and process execution software frameworks.
• Design and deployment of Azure Infrastructure and Linux baremetal and container images in production environments. 
• Design and maintain secure infrastructure environments in both Azure and Linux. 
• Automation deployment of composite API systems capable of executing package and schedule dispatch data in an automated environment.
• Present findings and recommendations to key decision makers at various management levels.
• Provide feedback to the engineering team to identify potential future business opportunities and new product capabilities.
