Overview

Within the GitHub and Microsoft CoreAI, the Developer AI team is working on incubating, building and delivering the next generation of AI-enabled developer tooling experiences as part of GitHub Copilot, across GitHub, Visual Studio Code and more. 

 

The DevDiv Developer AI team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer / AI Engineer with a deep interest and passion for the intersection of developer tooling and modern generative AI systems, and a drive to invent the future of AI-enabled software development.   

 

Our team builds platforms, products and features delivered into many of Microsoft and GitHub’s developer tools to empower and accelerate software development.

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of full-stack product engineering, building customer-facing products across both platform/foundations and front-end/user-experience.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Build end-to-end products and features working across different codebases and front-ends 
  • Apply the frontier of AI/LLM technologies to invent and deliver features for  developers 
  • Deliver and iterate quickly on new product opportunities, driven by usage and engagement 
  • Operate as part of a fast-paced team on ambitious new projects 
  • Design, implement, debug, and deliver experiences in TypeScript, Python, Go, .NET and others.
