We are currently hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our team. The Azure Compute Manager functions as the “kernel” of Microsoft’s cloud computing infrastructure. Our team builds fault-tolerant distributed systems on top of standard data center hardware to deliver a robust platform for hosting cloud applications in virtual servers. This infrastructure creates the experience of limitless, elastic, and highly available resources.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience designing algorithms and data structures within distributed systems.
  • 2+ years of experience directly working with large cloud providers. 

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

    • Or a related technical field AND  8+ years of technical engineering experience coding in one or more of the following languages: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    •  Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience

    • OR equivalent experience

  • 1+ year of experience working across multiple cloud platforms

    • Exposure to Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Engine (GCE) is a plus

  • 1+ year of experience with infrastructure and orchestration technologies

    • Familiarity with Kubernetes and Terraform is beneficial

 

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Change management at all layers (infra/customer, public/private) in a coherent way from standpoint of safety, staging and impact.
  • Orchestrate change management (code, data, config) with changes in dependencies, repairs, scale/up down and other activities at all layers of the virtualization stack.
  • Collect and reason about health of targets across the Azure Stack.
  • Deliver great change management velocity and orchestrate change in co-ordination with customer preferences.
  • Deliver awesome customer value in managing their deployments on Azure such that they find Azure is the easiest and safest places to run cloud first services as well as traditional enterprise IT.
  • Enable experimentation, flighting, testing in production and build solutions that enable customers to focus on business layer and automate/simplify provisioning and deployment on Azure.
  • Work with open source technologies and with partner Microsoft teams and products to ship solutions.
