Intelligent Conversation and Communication Cloud (IC3) at Microsoft is developing the next generation of collaboration and communication products that will revolutionize both consumer and enterprise communications.
 

Microsoft is seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Media Streaming team. This role is part of our broader effort to deliver seamless, high-performance media experiences across Microsoft platforms and services.
As a key contributor, you will help design and build scalable, low-latency streaming components that power real-time communication and collaboration. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate media capabilities into Microsoft’s ecosystem, ensuring reliability, quality, and innovation at every layer of the stack.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in designing and developing real-time video applications and video streaming solutions.

Other Requirements:


Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 4+ years of experience in designing, developing, and shipping highly reliable distributed systems and services.
  • Solid familiarity with image and signal processing, as well as video codec standards including AVC/H.264, HEVC/H.265, AV1, VVC/H.266, and machine learning–based video codecs.
  • Hands-on experience in building and deploying AI/ML solutions, with a focus on practical implementation and scalability.
  • Excellent communication skills and a track record of effective cross-functional collaboration.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate media streaming capabilities into broader Microsoft ecosystems, ensuring seamless user experiences and operational reliability.
  • Drive quality and performance improvements through telemetry instrumentation, automated testing, and continuous validation under varied network conditions.
  • Participate in sprint planning, technical reviews, and engineering excellence initiatives to align deliverables with organizational goals and product milestones.
  • Champion best practices in software engineering, with a focus on maintainability, scalability, and security in media streaming systems.
