Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
  • 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • Experience in the following areas: Storage Systems, Databases, SQL, Data Analytics.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • Experience building infrastructure in Google Cloud or other Cloud providers.
  • Experience with high-performance scalable storage and distributed systems back-ends.
  • Experience building or operating large-scale database or data warehouse systems.
  • Experience delighting enterprise customers, with an understanding of enterprise workloads.
  • Experience with C++ and Java.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Software Engineer to join our team, with a specific focus on the physical metadata layer and Iceberg Managed Tables.

In this role, you will be instrumental in contributing to our mission by designing, developing, and maintaining critical metadata services that power BigQuery's performance and functionality.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design and implement algorithms to automatically update the physical shape of stored data, taking into account system efficiency, scale, and user query performance.
  • Design and implement tests and experiments to evaluate and monitor the performance of the system.
  • Use the full battery of tools and instrumentation to develop, test and rollout features.
  • Coordinate with product engineers in all parts of the software stack.
