Overview

Come build the platform that powers Microsoft’s partner ecosystem. In Partner Center & Marketplace—a core part of Microsoft’s Commerce + Ecosystems division—you help deliver foundational services and experiences that enable partners to build, publish, sell, and grow with Microsoft, while helping customers discover and deploy 1P/3P solutions. You leverage GitHub Copilot and the latest generative AI models as you work across APIs, big data, services, and user experiences that operate at global scale, making it simpler, more secure, and more intelligent for partners and sellers to do business with Microsoft.

This position is part of the Partner Foundations Engineering team, responsible for building the platform and infrastructure services that power the Partner Portal (partner.microsoft.com), Partner AI Assistant, Partner Security, and Partner Enrollment. This highly visible role offers significant impact, as the components you build are used by our entire ecosystem of internal and external stakeholders. As a Software Engineer on this team, you explore and innovate with cutting-edge technologies like Azure, OpenAI & LLMs, Data & ML, driving business processes and contributing to strategy and broader vision. You work on services built from the ground up and influence the design and architecture of our solutions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (or currently pursuing a degree) in Computer Science or related technical discipline, 
    • OR equivalent experience. 
  • Proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python. 
  • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools including, but not limited to, GitHub Copilot, Amazon CodeWhisperer, or Tabnine to author or refactor code in a professional, internship, or academic project.
  • Experience integrating large language models (LLMs) including, but not limited to, GPT, Claude, or Sonnet into software projects.

Other Requirements 

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. 
    • OR Master's Degree (or currently pursuing a degree) in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python. 
  • 1+ year(s) experience in designing, developing, and shipping software solutions on a cloud services platform (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
  • 1+ year(s) experience working on UX technologies such as Angular or React.
  • 1+ year(s) experience building and working with scalable web services, REST APIs, and NoSQL and/or SQL-based backend data stores.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with stakeholders to determine user requirements for features.
  • Supports identification of dependencies and contributes to the development of design documents for product features with oversight.
  • Implements code for products, services, or features, reusing code as applicable and following guidance.
  • Breaks down work items into tasks and provides estimation with support from team members.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system, product features, or services for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore functionality by following established playbooks.
  • Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge to improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products, while driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
  • Contributes to the design and architecture of new services, leveraging modern AI tools and cloud technologies to deliver secure and scalable solutions.
