Overview

The Hyperscale Azure Networking team is responsible for developing, deploying, and operating the software and network devices that connect Microsoft's largest services, including the Azure Public Cloud and Microsoft 365. We write the code for the network services ranging from networking monitoring, the distributed systems that control our software defined and physical network, and the SONiC firmware that runs many of our physical switches. We design cloud-scale networks and data centers that provide petabits of connectivity at low cost and high reliability, from the optical systems on up.


Our team is focused on providing automation platform for making our network safer by reducing human touches and healthier by fast and reliable auto-mitigation of network impacting events.

As part of NetAssist, you’ll contribute to the development of an advanced automation platform designed to:

  • Enhance network safety by minimizing manual interventions
  • Improve network health through fast, reliable auto-mitigation of network-impacting events

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python,
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in IP networking and/or distributed systems.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, 
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python,
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Professional or academic project experience coding in C#.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.
  • Supports identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight.
  • With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable.
  • Assists and learns about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.
  • Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
