We plan to build transformational experiences in Copilot notebook and are looking to hire a Software Engineer II in the OneNote Cloud Experiences team. The problems we solve include running services that power OneNote at scale, building a multitude of grounding capabilities, creation of richer artifacts, multi-modal capture support, and building agent support on top of Copilot notebooks. The problems will also encompass deep architectural improvements to optimize performance and increase reliability. We plan to build these experiences at scale across all Web and mobile platforms and will continue to use the best-in-class infrastructure that boosts developer productivity and engineering velocity.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications  

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
  • OR equivalent experience. 
  • 2+ years cloud and services experience. Azure stack is a plus. 
  • Hands-on experience debugging and resolving any technical issues throughout all phases of the software development lifecycle. 

 

Other Requirements: 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Background in working with large-scale, distributed systems 
  • Experience leveraging AI to increase engineering velocity and quality. 

 

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Work with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features. 
  • Contribute to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight. 
  • Create and implement code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. 
  • Contribute to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provide estimation. 
  • Act (at times i.e. in rotation) as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems. 
  • Remain current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale. 
  • Leverage the work of others, including the work of peers, of internal Microsoft solutions, and of open-source and industry solutions, to avoid reinventing the wheel. 
  • Design cloud solutions using microservice architecture and other techniques. Package up solutions to make them easy and attractive for other teams to follow.
