We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about building user-centric features and shaping the future of productivity.

 

In this role, you’ll focus on direct user interaction and experience, working on both content and chrome within Word Native. You’ll collaborate with a talented and experienced team of engineers to solve complex technical challenges—from document layout and performance tuning to modern asynchronous collaboration. You’ll work in a customer-focused, hypothesis-driven environment, partnering across Office teams and leveraging both qualitative and quantitative data to build experiences that people truly need and love.

 

We’re also exploring how AI can enhance user flows, powering the next wave of innovation in productivity tools.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience. 
  • 2+ years of experience with Typescript
  • 1+ years of experience working on user-facing product development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) and related prompt engineering a plus

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

  • Design, own, and deliver software solutions that meet business and technical requirements, while fostering strong communication and collaboration across teams.
  • Drive the full software development lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Apply creative problem-solving and data-driven decision-making to ensure high-quality outcomes and continuous improvement.
  • Develop secure, reliable, scalable, and maintainable code, and take ownership of debugging, testing, and supporting software in production environments.
