Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
  • 3 years of experience in Android development including coding experience in Java or Kotlin.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Experience with watch face development, including knowledge of rendering techniques, offloading, and ambient mode.
  • Experience with UI/UX design and development.
  • Experience with performance optimization and power management on mobile or wearable devices.

As Staff Software Engineer, Pixel Watch Apps and Faces, you will be a key contributor to the design, development, and delivery of high-quality watch faces and applications for the Pixel Watch. You will work on challenging problems and have a significant impact on the future of the Pixel Watch experience. You will lead projects, mentor and manage junior engineers, and shape the technical direction of the team.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test high-quality, performant code for watch faces and applications, using Kotlin/Java and other relevant technologies. Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to other engineers. Debug, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues, including performance and power optimization.
  • Contribute to and review technical design documents, ensuring code quality, testability, and best practices. Collaborate with product and design teams to translate requirements into technical designs and implementations.
  • Identify and implement improvements to development processes and tools, explore and prototype new features and technologies, and stay informed with latest technologies and trends in wearables.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers, and lead small to medium-sized projects, managing timeline and deliverables.
    • Contribute to definition of technical strategy, while complying with all company health and safety policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
