Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in software engineering, building and working with systems in a technology organization.
  • Experience with Machine Learning (ML) models, ML infrastructure, Natural Language Processing or Computer Vision.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics, or a technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with building tools or systems for developers.
  • Experience working across highly horizontal areas requiring a high-degree of cross-organizational collaboration and coordination in a rapidly evolving space like GenAI, and experience influencing at scale.
  • Experience with GenAI at model layer and partnering closely with Research and Applied ML teams for code domain.
  • Ability and technical depth to uncover root causes of complex technical problems and provide guidance on solving them, with a passion for technology.

Core Developer is responsible for supporting Google's Developer Languages, Developer Frameworks, and services that support Google's Developer Lifecycle. Developer's mission is to make it easy for all developers to improve the world by creating fast, high-quality, and trustworthy experiences with the best technology from Google and the open source ecosystem. DevAI is an important company-wide initiative that has been responsible for over 10% coding velocity gains and more than 30% of the code authored by AI. This program is now at the forefront of bringing Agentic AI to a broad spectrum of Software Development across Google.

The work in our organization spans training and fine tuning Gemini models, deploying them via Google's commercial AI platforms (e.g., Gemini API, Vertex AI), integrating them into all the developer surfaces, and building new AI native experiences. We partner closely with Google DeepMind and Google Cloud organizations across a broad range of efforts.

Our existing and in-flight efforts are materially improving key Software Engineer journeys and delivering measurable productivity and velocity gains through state of the art enterprise-grade AI.

In this role, you will be responsible for defining the technical roadmap for improving Agentic AI quality outcomes, driving AI adoption, and guiding key workstreams around building cutting-edge capabilities that address software engineering modernization at Google-scale. You will drive the technical vision and execution of our Developer AI Strategy, ensuring alignment with broader company goals.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $349,000-$485,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Drive the technical vision and execution of the Developer AI Strategy, ensuring alignment with broader company goals, with a particular focus on making agentic software development a reality, at Google-scale. 
  • Oversee quality improvements across the AI portfolio, and guide technical choices that enable rapid progress on Google’s collective ambitions for rapidly adopting advances like agentic software development.
  • Create a roadmap for incorporating latest advances from GDM and Research into applied areas across Core Developer and Google’s product areas.
  • Build the right safety guardrails that enable complex, highly regulated organizations like Google to rapidly adopt GenAI for a broad range of Software Development.
  • Set standards for measurement and telemetry of data across aspects of the SDLC, and influencing stakeholders on measuring the efficacy of AI adoption.
