  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience testing and launching software products.
  • 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.

In this role, you will be a contributor who acts as the technical authority for media storage and metadata database infrastructure within Photos and develops the long-term technical strategy for the storage space in partnership with technical leaders within and outside of the team.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects, and set the long-term storage strategy for the organization in partnership with storage infrastructure owners across Google and with technical leaders within the team.
  • Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers, and partner across technical domains to identify and sponsor critical cross-domain efforts (e.g., Storage, Security). 
  • Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines, and act as the technical sponsor for the high priority projects in the Storage Domain.
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, and ensure high quality technical decision making for complex, foundational, and durable issues in the domain.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large scale software solutions.
