The Healthcare AI Frontiers group is dedicated to accelerating the discovery and delivery of new and better treatments. Our mission is to bridge the gap between groundbreaking AI research and everyday clinical practice, ultimately improving health outcomes for patients worldwide.

 

This group closely collaborates with Microsoft Research to develop novel machine learning methods and systems to solve real-world healthcare challenges. We nurture opportunities and technologies that will shape and define our industry over the next several years.

 

We are looking to have a Senior Applied Scientist join our team. We work closely with product groups across the company, including Azure, Foundry, Dragon, M365 and Copilot to bring new research into products and platforms for pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, payor, and healthcare providers. We are the team behind Healthcare AI models and agents from Microsoft and its ecosystem of partners. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and/or Machine Learning.
  • Track record of moving fast with open minded curiosity, bias to build, learn and iterate.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, or related quantitative fields
    • OR equivalent experience. 
  • 3+ years of experience building AI powered products as a full stack PM, engineer or researcher
  • Proficient collaboration and communication skills
  • Coding skills in one or more of: Python, C/C++, C#, Java, Scala
  • Experience with deep learning in PyTorch or Tensorflow/Keras
  • Experience with recent CV, NLP & deep learning advancements, e.g.,transformers, attention, LSTMs, sequence to sequence, etc.
  • Experience creating representative evaluations and benchmarks, including data acquisition, curation, labeling
  • Experience with supervised and reinforcement fine-tuning
  • Experience with production ML/NLP pipelines and products, quantifiable product impact
  • Publications in ML/AI conferences (e.g., CVPR, NeurIPS, ICML) is a plus
  • Experience with Clinical or Biomedical AIand applications is a plus
  • Experience/interest in Healthcare and/or Health technology

Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will: 

  • Build 0-1 products from the ground up as a hybrid PM, engineer and researcher working across cross-functional teams
  • Rapidly prototype with AI and execute with teammates with velocity
  • Drive Healthcare AI agent and model vision, requirements, and guide the team to deliver and drive customer adoption
