$119,800 - $234,700/yr

Redmond, WA

Overview

Core AI is at the forefront of Microsoft’s mission to redefine how software is built and experienced. We are responsible for building the foundational platforms, services, programming models, and developer experiences that power the next generation of applications using Generative AI. Our work enables developers and enterprises to harness the full potential of AI to create intelligent, adaptive, and transformative software.

The 1ES (One Engineering System) team is responsible for enabling the world's best engineering teams with world-class tools and systems that help them ship products their customers love.

Developers rely on many components to build software, including open-source packages, container images and infrastructure-as-code configuration files. Keeping those components up to date is paramount to every modern application’s security and imposes a big cost on development teams. Moreover, the evolving environment of cybersecurity is such that new threat vectors are discovered often and require developers to quickly update their code to keep it protected.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer within the Open Source Engineering team, who will play a key role in shaping the direction of engineering systems and enhancing developer productivity. The responsibilities will include developing scalable distributed services for open source component inventory management, analysis, and alerting. Additionally, design advanced dependency detection tools that are compatible with emerging ecosystems, deliver improved performance and accuracy, and incorporate AI-driven features to minimize alert noise. Understanding of how package managers and containers work, how packages are built in various languages, how runtimes deal with versioned artifacts and how dependencies are handled would be very useful.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
