Amazon is searching for an innovative and technically-oriented Technical Program Manager who is able to interface with MHE vendors' engineering teams and be responsible for technical validation, performance optimization, and engineering standards compliance across our first and middle mile networks. The role primarily focuses on managing the technical aspects of vendor relationships and ensuring delivery of high-quality MHE solutions.

In this role you will be responsible for conducting engineering reviews, and establishing performance benchmarks for vendor equipment. You'll be overseeing equipment testing, and ensuring compliance with Amazon's engineering standards. This role involves technical collaboration with vendors' engineering teams and internal technical stakeholders.

This person will possess a strong engineering and program management background, will have demonstrated experience leading medium to large projects, and will have a well-rounded technical background in current MHE technologies and storage solutions. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an innovative environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in, and get the job done.

This role requires 50% regional travel and availability to work from one of the locations listed when not traveling. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Relocation assistance may be provided.

Key job responsibilities
- You are expected to have fluency in systems level architecture, critique and debate tech design, judge technical viability of the product/solution and tailor communication for tech and non-tech stakeholders.
- Conduct technical performance assessments and acceptance testing
- Establish and monitor engineering quality standards for vendor deliverables
- Manage technical issues resolution and engineering change processes
- Drive continuous improvement in vendor technical performance
- Evaluate new vendor technologies and capabilities
- Coordinate with internal engineering teams on vendor interface requirements
- Provide technical guidance on vendor selection and evaluation
- Help your customers and the engineering teams make appropriate trade-offs by considering the larger picture (e.g., business goals, throughput expectations, quality requirements, efficiency, maintainability, operability)
- Build strong working relationships with Fulfillment Center (FC) and Sort Center (SC) leadership and their operations teams across multiple sites including Industrial Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, and Process Engineering stakeholders
- Communicate and present program status to VPs of Engineering and Operations
- Data mine and transform raw thoughts into clear technical documentation
- Ability to travel up to 50% to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders

About the team
The Technical Vendor Management Team will serve as a strategic voice from GES to the vendor, managing MHE vendor performance and resolving systemic issues.

This team is open to hiring candidates based in the following locations: Bay Area, CA; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Austin, TX; Miami, FL; Phoenix Metro Area; Arlington, VA; Bellevue, WA; Seattle, WA; Boston Metro Area; Nasvhille, TN; New York City; Atlanta Metro Area; Chicago, IL

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent
- 7+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
- Experience working directly with engineering teams
- Experience with MHE and packaging lines or process design based on Lean Manufacturing techniques
- Superior communication and writing skills, including the proven ability to effectively manage, influence, negotiate, and communicate with external business partners and internal teams to meet organizational capacity needs
- Experience with Microsoft Office products: Excel, Project and Outlook.
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, BIM 360, etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Master’s degree in Engineering or a related STEM field.
- MHE Design or Systems Integration experience
- Experience writing specifications or RFP documents working with OEM MHE suppliers
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and controls system design requirements
- General knowledge of FC operations
- Capital project management skills.
- Design-in-Safety experience
- Directly managed and responsible for large automation project budgets
- 3+ years of experience with material handling elements such as high-speed sortation, multiple conveyor subsystems, package lines and/or robotic work cells

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market.
