Overview

The Data Management Platform (DMP), part of Microsoft AI (MAI) is hiring for a Principal Applied Scientist in Redmond, WA or Mountain view, CA.
 
The Data Management Platform (DMP) team is at the heart of user understanding for Microsoft Advertising. We build and operate large-scale data pipelines, machine learning models, and APIs that enable user segmentation, targeting, personalization, and measurement for advertisers and publishers.
We work with massive amounts of data from diverse sources such as web browsing, search queries, and interests. We apply advanced techniques in natural language processing, deep learning, graph mining, and differential privacy to extract insights and value from the data while preserving user trust and privacy.


As a Principal Applied Scientist in User Mapping Service, you will join an existing platform team, conduct research and experimentation to design, develop, and evaluate novel user identity graph built in offline & NRT, and online identity resolution techniques, collaborate with product managers, engineers, technical program managers to understand business requirements, define success metrics, deliver end-to-end solutions, evaluate quality of user identity resolution, build user graphs for various policies for all across Microsoft AI organization, track metrics, generate user identity cluster score, gather DSAT data, and continuously improve the graph via experimentation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience developing machine learning models and deploying them in live production systems, as part of a product team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience buidling models for User identity graph is highly preferred
  • 1+ year of experience with Ads related technologies.
  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering,
    • OR related field AND 9+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering,
    • OR related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings).
  • 3+ years experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.

Research Sciences IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Master a broad area or research and understand any applicable research techniques.

  • Review business and product requirement, incorporate research, and provide strategic direction for problem solving.
  • Ensure scientific rigor, support the development of methods, and apply your expertise to support business impact
  • Identify and inspire peers and new research talent to join Microsoft, build relationships, and advocate for research initiatives.
  • Share research findings through industry outreach, collaborate with the academic community, and help develop the recruiting pipeline.
  • Document work and experimentation results and share findings to promote innovation. You’ll provide guidance when capturing processes and contribute to ethics and privacy policies related to research processes and data collection.
