Overview

As a Software Engineer II on the Office Platform team, you will help shape the future of productivity by building foundational components that power the Office ecosystem. Your focus will be on Service Delivered Experiences (SDX) and Office.js, enabling internal and external developers to create rich, performant, and secure Office add-ins and extensions across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of professional experience as a Full Stack Engineer.
  • Passionate about building developer platforms and improving developer productivity.
  • Experience working with  API design, SDK development, and developer tooling.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with a C-family or similar programming language (C, C++, C#, Java, etc.) 
  • Solid understanding of API design, SDK development, and developer tooling. 
  • Deep interest in AI, machine learning, or data science, or related technologies. 
  • Experience with Office.js, Visual Studio Code extensions, or similar extensibility platforms is a plus. 
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills. 

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain core components of the SDX infrastructure and Office.js API surface. 
  • Improve performance, reliability, and scalability of the Office extensibility platform. 
  • Collaborate with partner teams across Office and Microsoft 365 to ensure consistent developer experience. 
  • Engage with the developer community to gather feedback and drive platform improvements.
