The Autonomous Security team is looking for a skilled and driven Senior Applied Scientist (AS III) to develop autonomous security solutions that protect Amazon’s customers. You will frame open-ended security problems as hypotheses, design and evaluate novel approaches, and drive research outcomes into scalable systems. You will define the scientific direction for core areas of our autonomous research strategy, working independently in ambiguous problem spaces and collaborating with cross-functional teams to advance the application of AI in security.
Key job responsibilities
As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will use your technical expertise to influence the design and direction of AI systems that automate security decisions at scale. You will lead the scientific approach for key problem areas, develop and validate novel algorithms, and collaborate with engineering teams to transition research into production. Your work will focus on real-world security challenges across domains where automation can improve decision quality and speed. You will work with large-scale data and compute to advance both our autonomous capabilities and the underlying science. Your contributions will increase the speed, precision, and autonomy of Amazon’s autonomous security response.

- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
- Hands on experience with AI
- Scientific thinking and the ability to invent, a track record of thought leadership and contributions that have advanced the field
- Good written and spoken communication skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
