Ring is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join the Ring Pioneer Team that specializes in new AI/ML cloud initiatives. This team is at the forefront of developing and deploying innovative machine learning solutions that will shape the future of Ring's intelligent features across our product ecosystem. This position is open for locations in Southern California (greater Los Angeles county and Orange county areas) as well as Northern California in Silicon Valley.
As part of the Ring Pioneer Team, the ideal candidate will be an advocate of AI/ML technologies, highly innovative, goal-oriented, and excited to push the boundaries of what's possible in cloud-based machine learning. You should be passionate about exploring emerging AI technologies, developing proof-of-concepts, and translating them into scalable, production-ready solutions. You take ownership of your work and are committed to advancing the state-of-the-art in ML model performance, scalability, data quality, and responsible AI practices.
Key job responsibilities:
• Lead the design and development of AI/ML services in cloud environments (AWS), focusing on novel applications and emerging technologies
• Drive the technical direction and architecture of experimental and large-scale ML systems, including advanced model training pipelines and high-performance inference services
• Identify and evaluate new AI/ML technologies and methodologies, assessing their potential to create breakthrough features for Ring products
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Data Scientists, Product Managers, ML Engineers, and leadership to identify new AI-driven opportunities and translate them into tangible prototypes and products
• Establish and implement best practices for MLOps in a pioneering environment, including techniques for rapid prototyping, efficient experimentation, and seamless transition to production
• Mentor team members in advanced ML engineering practices; foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the Pioneer Team
• Provide thought leadership in both software engineering and machine learning, influencing the direction of Ring's AI strategy
• Drive the operational excellence of experimental ML services as they transition to large-scale production environments
• Stay at the up to date on AI/ML advancements, actively participating in the wider AI community and bringing external innovations into Ring's technology stack

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
