Our Alexa Home team works on developing cloud services to work with Alexa devices with a screen such as the highly rated Echo Show product line used by millions of customers.
As a Software Engineering Manager on the Alexa Home team within Alexa Devices, you will help drive innovation by developing features that present innovative speech-backed visual experiences on our Echo Show devices and similar screened Alexa devices.
As a Software Development Manager, you will lead and work with a talented team to innovate and deliver business and software solutions. Your ability to define and develop high scalable and high performant services is essential. You will have opportunities to work on back-end (Services) driven by ML and non ML and interact with business stakeholders directly. Successful candidates will be able to lead by example, balancing their technical depth with customer focused acumen to deliver products which delight our customers. In addition, successful candidates will be able to lead by example, balance development responsibilities while participating in cross team efforts including architecture planning.

Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Manager , your key responsibilities include:
• Drive technical vision and architecture decisions for backend systems
• Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team
• Drive Agile execution and sprint planning
• Partner with Product and Design teams on roadmap priorities
• Ensure service reliability and availability
• Communicate technical decisions and progress to leadership
• Recruit and retain top engineering talent
• Review and approve critical technical designs
• Manage stakeholder expectations across teams
• Monitor team health and key performance metrics
• Drive adoption of engineering best practices
• Contribute to long-term technical strategy
• Provide regular status updates on key initiatives
• Balance immediate delivery needs with long-term strategic goals
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
