Research Scientist, Luma

Minimum qualifications:

• PhD degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience in computer vision, Machine Learning (ML), image processing, or computer graphics.
• Experience in Python programming.
• One or more scientific publication submission(s) for conferences, journals, or public repositories. (such as CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc).
• Experience in state of the art ML and deep learning using modern ML packages e.g. JAX, and TensorFlow.

Preferred qualifications:

• Ability to design and execute on research agendas.

As a Research Scientist, you'll also actively contribute to the wider research community by sharing and publishing your findings, with ideas inspired by internal projects as well as from collaborations with research programs at partner universities and technical institutes all over the world.

This team's mission is to develop fundamental, state of the art, imaging, and Machine Learning (ML) research and technology, widely applicable to Google products, and helpful to users.

Over the last several years, this team has developed several core technologies including the digital zoom pipeline for the Pixel phones, which includes the multi-frame super-resolution pipeline. Most recently, this team led the development of the Unblur feature launched in Google Photos with Pixel 7/pro. Unblur is the most frequently used premium feature on Pixel.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

• Research and develop ML for computer vision, computational photography, graphics, image or video processing, and generative AI. 
• Demonstrate strong programming application skills in Python, and knowledge of ML platforms such as Jax, TensorFlow, and Pytorch.
