We're seeking a Sr. Manager Applied Science to revolutionize Amazon's search experience through state-of-the-art Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL), and Large Language Models (LLMs).

Amazon Search is embarking on a multi-year transformation to reimagine the shopping experience, starting with a deep understanding of customer shopping missions. Our goal is to leverage the latest advances in LLMs to find relevant products for customer queries from our vast product catalog and show the right subset of these products to our customers worldwide to make shopping effortless for them.

As a Senior Manager for Applied Science, you will:
* Lead and grow a team of applied scientists and machine learning engineers working on search technologies
* Drive the technical vision for implementing ML and LLM-based solutions to improve search results
* Drive scalable ML/DL solutions that can handle Amazon's vast product catalog
* Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to define and execute the search transformation roadmap
* Translate complex customer problems into practical ML solutions
* Monitor and improve key performance metrics for search relevance and customer satisfaction
* Stay current with the latest developments in ML/DL/LLM research and identify opportunities for implementation

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

* PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related quantitative field
* 4+ years experience of managing successful teams
* 7+ years industry experience building successful production science systems
* Experience with machine learning technologies, Deep Learning, large language models (LLMs), information retrieval and/or related applications
Experience communicating with executives and non-technical leaders
* Strong Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design, and statistics

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience with search, information retrieval, or recommendation systems
* Publication record in top ML conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc.)
* Track record of innovation in ML/AI applications
* Experience with cloud computing platforms and distributed systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $196,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $340,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
