Alexa Situational Context team is situated at the center of all Alexa customer experiences. As more and more customers setup multiple Alexa enabled devices in their home, we are looking for a passionate, hard-working and talented Senior Software Engineer for the Amazon Alexa org who has experience building innovative, mission critical cloud services in the Alexa. You will have an exciting opportunity to make a large impact on the design, architecture, and development of our consumer services.

Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will:
· Develop scalable cloud services that can handles millions of requests
· Investigate and propose design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility
· Map out the Architecture and Design of new and current systems incorporating Machine Learning
· Work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software

You will be part of Sensing and Perception team which comprises of services such as Echo Spatial Perception (ESP), Presence Detection and Ambient learning of the customer environment – Where is the customer and What is around the customer. You will work with other Software developers and directly interact with Principal and Sr. Engineers, Principal Product Managers, Sr. Technical Program Managers, Sr. Applied Scientists, and other leaders of Alexa org.

What's unique about Sensing and Perception team is that - We delight the customer by selecting the best device to listen to when the customer speaks. We use multiple modalities to determine the best device to respond from. We operate with a clear sense of Ownership and drive Device as well as multiple Cloud organizations to achieve the right experience for our customers.

Your role is to create innovative multi-device solutions, build and maintain large-scale cloud services, influence changes to multiple Alexa core systems, and participate in building long term vision for Sensing and Perception. You'll measure your success by the quality of your deliverables, pace of innovation you help drive, and the impact you make for our customers.

A day in the life

Alexa Sensing and Perception team is a small Agile family. This means you'll enjoy an outsized impact and the benefit of having many different responsibilities. All within a day, you'll gather requirements, disambiguate and design complex features, collaborate with ML scientists, guide other Software Developers, develop and work on new features, analyze stability of these features, request reproduction of a bug from QA, review a technical spec with the team, perform code reviews, prioritize incoming CS tickets, and collaborate with product on the feasibility of new customer experiences. Our engineers are owners and technical product specialists, in a truly fun and exceptionally high impact space.


About the team
This team built Alexa's Echo Spatial Perception (ESP) capability and Occupancy based Smart Home Routines. This role has direct impact on millions of Alexa customers and thousands of Alexa Skill developers worldwide.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 7+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 4+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
