Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering is a fast growing and leading-edge research and development team that creates enterprise compute and storage server designs for our innovative web service and e-commerce technology platforms. Our designs are industry-leading in terms of performance, frugality and operational excellence, and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the hundreds of thousands of customers who use utility computing today. We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) to define and build the next generation of our vertically integrated NAND-based storage solution, Nitro SSD.

The ideal TPM candidate will be an experienced Technical Program Manager who is skilled in driving a storage product development lifecycle including working with Hardware and Firmware teams across several geographic regions while leveraging global suppliers and development partners. The successful candidate will be an innovative self-starter and leader. The candidate will be familiar with the cloud computing industry and AWS offerings and will be passionate about providing the best possible customer experience at the best cost. The candidate will have an obsession with data and precise analysis and will use these as inputs to make decisions.

What you will do: As a Sr. TPM on the Nitro SSD team you will be responsible for leading multiple simultaneous storage product development programs in a highly cross-functional environment which includes internal customers and hardware/software development teams, external vendors and technology partners. You’ll provide technical leadership in the application of new technologies to large scale NAND-based storage solutions development and deployment in a continuous effort to deliver a world-class customer experience at a world-class cost point. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality and cost. Using data and key metrics, you will also drive and measure process improvements that enhance our operational effectiveness. You will work independently in a dynamic, challenging, and fast-changing organization. Prior experience in building and scaling solid-state-drives or storage solutions is a definite plus.

Key job responsibilities
- Drive full product development lifecycle for a storage solution, including design, development, qualification, launch and sustain as the program technical lead and program manager
- Partner with internal Hardware, Firmware, Software and NAND teams on product roadmap and feature definition
- Lead technical engagement with design partners, contract manufactures and ODMs on product development, qualification and launch
- Drive cross-functional continuous improvement projects to improve product quality and cost
- Engage with NAND vendors, SoC vendors to drive long-term product roadmap and product portfolio
- Lead monthly business reviews, quarterly business reviews and technical engagement forums with key partners and customers
- Drive best-practices for product development process and program management for large-scale storage solution development

A day in the life
- Lead product development standup, engaging with key development partners
- Key customer engagement on product development, qualification and scaling
- Drive technical review with partners, vendors, tracking product development lifecycle stage and planning for product lifecycle step(s)
- Audit vendors and contract manufacturers for KPIs and drive continuous improvement
- Lead cross-functional initiative Finance, Supply-chain and development partners to improve cost, quality and continuity-of-supply
- Drive cross-functional initiatives to innovate on the product (roadmap, features and customer enablement)
- Drive weekly, monthly program reviews for products including development milestones, update on cost, yields, technology roadmap and continuity of supply

About the team
Nitro SSD is the fastest growing NAND flash-memory based storage solution for AWS. The 3rd generation Nitro SSD is now available for AWS customers on both Intel and Graviton storage platforms. This is the latest milestone in the AWS Nitro SSD strategy. We deliver industry leading performance and tail latency, while offering a cost competitive, high density storage solution for AWS customers. We own ALL the firmware, hardware, software and telemetry/monitoring for ALL the devices in the fleet. We partner will global NAND vendors, SoC vendors and manufacturing partners to drive the full product-lifecycle for Nitro SSD.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of technical product or program management experience
- 3+ years of software development experience
- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
- 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
- 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of hardware development lifecycle, preferably in the storage product space

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 7+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
- Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
- Experience developing and executing/delivering product and technical roadmaps
- Experience in project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management
- Prior experience in developing storage products including SSDs, HDDs is a definite plus
- Prior experience in driving multi-year continuous improvement projects at-scale is a plus
- Demonstrated experience at establishing sustainable program management and product development practices

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
