Amazon’s Legal Department is looking for a talented attorney to support Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of the world’s fastest growing technology companies. This role will provide a blend of counseling and transactional support to teams dedicated to engineering, supply chain, security and procurement of the technology that all AWS cloud services and customers rely upon. You will work directly with a wide array of teams across AWS to advise and support teams dedicated to security, compliance, and risk management of AWS infrastructure, help develop and launch new hardware, and manage the supply chain for these technologies deployed around the globe. You will also help identify, counsel on, and resolve a wide array of commercial, operational, regulatory, and compliance issues. The transactional support for this role includes a wide variety of deal types, including the following: hardware and software development agreements; technology licensing; supply, procurement, and manufacturing agreements; SaaS and hosted services agreements; and professional, operations, and support services agreements. Over time, you will learn about the business to understand and anticipate the key risks we face, partner with your clients to develop and execute appropriate mitigation strategies, and ultimately help chart long-term strategy for AWS infrastructure.
We expect this role to own and deliver on diverse and complex projects and transactions simultaneously. Successful candidates will possess a clear and concise communication style, demonstrate strong organizational skills, and effectively collaborate across multiple internal teams and with counter-parties.
Key job responsibilities
- Supporting and directly advising business partners on legal, commercial, operational, regulatory, and other risks.
- Developing, advising on, and implementing with the business vendor engagement, contractual, and negotiation strategies.
- Collaborating cross-functionally to identify and resolve commercial, operational, compliance, regulatory, security, safety, legal, and customer/vendor issues.
- Structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial and technology-related agreements, including development, supply, manufacturing services, software licensing, services, and other bespoke agreements.
- 5+ years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work
- 2+ years at a leading law firm or in-house
- Proven track record of strong judgment in the absence of precedent
- Strong ability to identify key issues and solve problems using creative solutions.
- Experience providing legal counsel and support for regulatory and compliance matters
- Experience providing prompt, practical, crisp, and actionable legal advice.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for technology
- Ability to lead and influence cross-functionally to resolve complicated problems.
- Common sense, great judgment, and a good sense of humor
- Transactional, drafting, and negotiations experience of complex commercial or technology agreements.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
