Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, the messaging and real-time analytics team provides comprehensive solutions and a robust platform that enables users to ingest high granularity signals (real-time & observability) and complex data, converting those into a competitive advantage in real-time for both end users and modern applications.   


We are looking for a Principal Group SWE (Software Engineering) Manager for our team. 

 

This role includes the design of proprietary technologies as well as deep expertise in open source runtimes like Apache Spark Structured Streaming and Apache FlinkAs the world moves fully to a digital world where data originates from everywhere and needs to be processed instantly this position will give you an opportunity to be at the center of that transformationThis role has multi-dimensional challenges, from building and operating streaming engines that have to process millions of events per second near realtime, to building innovative user experiences to provide these new technologies to less technical savvy users.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in building and operating Cloud Services or Distributed Systems.


Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: 
    • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 


Preferred Qualifications
 

  • 5+ years people management experience
  • Demonstrated experience in using or building Stream Processing frameworks like Apache Spark Structured Streaming, Apache Flink, or similar
  • Demonstrated experience in building database systems core components like Storage or Query layers
  • Demonstrated experience in building SaaS data processing products 

 

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
