The Xcode and Swift Playground Program, Build, and Release project management team is responsible for running bug tracking operations, coordinating and planning our daily builds, and delivering software releases internally and to the public. Engineering Project Managers (EPMs) are one of the secrets to Apple’s success in delivering quality software on-time. We bridge organizational boundaries and drive cross-functional collaboration, enabling teams to surpass what they might achieve on their own and expanding the possibilities of what we can build as a company.
We are seeking an experienced project or release manager. You will develop bug management processes in partnership with our software engineering managers, communicate branching/release schedules and deadlines for our team and our partners, and coordinate internal and production releases of Apple’s tools software. These tools are used by millions of developers of macOS, iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS apps.
This role has a great opportunity to automate tasks for validating builds are done correctly, posting deliverables, and communicating with engineers. Scripting experience with Python, Perl, or Swift is critical.
Description
As a build and release project manager, your responsibilities include:
Coordinating within our team and with our partners to release high-quality tools on time
Understanding and driving our integration and build processes, from bootstrapping to seeds to customer ship
Tracking and prioritizing tasks across multiple product releases and efforts simultaneously
Driving resolutions on build issues with engineering teams
Providing daily prioritized information to the build and integration team on upcoming releases
Communicating effectively at all levels, from informal drop-ins to formal announcements, often being the face of developer tools inside Apple
Releasing software to developers through the Apple Developer beta program and the App Store
Automating repetitive tasks and seeing around corners for future tasks that would benefit from automation
Minimum Qualifications
Prior project management experience
Crisp attention to detail while balancing multiple priorities and projects
Ability to devise and prioritize plans
Concise verbal and written communication skills
Comfort with the UNIX shell and ability to automate tasks using a scripting language such as Python, Swift, or Perl
Ability to work in a highly cross-functional capacity
Preferred Qualifications
Desired, but not required, skills and experience:
Developing with or understanding of Apple's OS technologies
Software or hardware release experience, managing complex, cross-functional projects
Developing and releasing a consumer or enterprise product
Usage of source control systems such as git
A power user of Slack who looks for ways to optimize workflows and streamline communication
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
Familiarity with software or hardware engineering, processes, and product life cycles
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $165,500 and $248,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
