This Optics Metrology Lead role is an excellent opportunity for a passionate engineer to join the Apple camera team and lead exciting multi-functional optical projects! Your work will directly impact the user experience of hundreds of millions of Apple customers. Our group plays a key role in maintaining quality standards at Apple and creating the magical experiences our customers expect. You will be in charge of the development and factory roll out of industry leading calibration and metrology test solutions for the manufacture of optical components. You will understand the user impact of the test metrics and provide guidance to the wider camera team. You will work with the components owners to help them realize their components performance objectives in mass production, by making sure the metrology and test solutions provide the best possible feedback to process for performance improvement. We are looking for a leader who can drive the development of our factory optimized metrology and test solutions in parallel to that of the product; someone who can thrive in a dynamic and high pressure environment. You will have a deep understanding of optics, hardware and software fundamentals and a background in designing and specifying complex systems. You will apply your excellent communication skills and passion to lead multi-functional teams to develop ground-breaking products.

Description

- You will own and lead optics metrology & test architecture, communicating test plans and capabilities to the cross-functional team - Work closely with Apple suppliers to implement, improve and monitor test capabilities - Identify future gaps in capability then lead the creation and roll out of solutions to fill those gaps - Investigate and push the boundaries of calibration and test coverage - Data analysis to assess test capability against test specifications and end user impact - Improvement and optimization of the metrology and test solutions - Analysis of test metric fundamentals and test specification methodology to drive improvements - Documentation of metrology & test engineering requirement specifications and developing/executing project plans in coordination with the component owners - Willingness and ability to travel: up to 2~4 times travel a year for 8-10 day trips - Specify test stations and diagnostics for testing product features, specifying and implementing test process control and test data collection

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.S./PhD in Science, Technology, Engineering or equivalent field
  • Experience in imaging optical systems and lens metrology
  • Experience with Python or Matlab

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing AVI solutions
  • Previous experience in lens metrology for manufacturing
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a large group of engineers
  • Confidence in data analysis and statistics as it relates to metrology and manufacturing
  • Proactive, self-motivated engineer who can take the initiative and lead improvement
