Overview

The Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) team at Microsoft delivers critical updates which keep over one billion Microsoft customers secure and productive. The Release Analysis and Monitoring (RAM) team within WSD ensures that these updates function effectively for Windows customers. The RAM team is hiring a Software Engineer II - Full Stack to join their diverse team that uses large-scale distributed systems to release hundreds of updates to customers each month.


As a Software Engineer II - Full Stack, you will play a key role in developing machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to process hundreds of thousands of posts from a variety of sources including forums, blogs, support tickets, User Initiated Feedback items, mailing lists, and beyond. You will get the opportunity to work on a multidisciplinary team that builds complex data processing, data analysis systems focused on natural language processing (NLP), text classifiers, clustering, emerging topics, trending, and anomaly detection. Your challenge will be to find a needle in a haystack!

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Experience with full stack development.
  • Experience building Azure services and SQL or other relational databases.

Other Requirements

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP).


Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Implement algorithms to establish Relevance, Clustering, Classification, and derived signals out of text data.
  • Create systems to correlate text data against rich, structured data sources to derive useful insights.
  • Conduct experiments against a curated ground-truth set to evaluate the best algorithms and tune parameters.
  • Enhance the experimentation capabilities with additional modes of execution, evaluation metrics and visualizations.
  • Design all components, code, tests, and monitoring for your features.
  • Work closely with Program Managers, Data Scientists, Software Engineers, Feedback Analysts, and partner teams.
  • Develop and establish a customer feedback loop.
