Apple is looking for an experienced Textile Development Engineer to join the Softgoods Engineering team to combine traditional engineering materials and textiles to enhance Apple’s existing product lines and to enable new technologies. The Textile Technology Development Engineer will work in a dynamic and creative environment to help determine the viability of new ideas and new technologies. The ideal candidate has an extensive experience with various textiles manufacturing techniques from machine setup and maintenance to process development and troubleshooting. This is a hands-on interdisciplinary development role that will require curiosity and versatility across a wide range of disciplines in a highly collaborative environment to create breathtaking and highly functional products that will amaze and delight our customers.

Description

The Softgoods team works with traditional engineering materials and specializes in non-traditional engineering materials. Our mission is to use these incredible materials to enhance Apple’s existing product lines and to enable new technologies. In this role, you will leverage your previous experiences and technical skills to enable new technology development in our lab. Daily tasks will include setting up, maintaining and running textile fabrication machines. Some examples could include (but are not limited to): Run and maintain manufacturing weaving machine with rapier Prepare beams with a warper and tie warps on needle loom Identifying and resolving issues related to machine setup and alignment during warp knitting Prepare bobbins and run horn gear braiding machine

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in the textile industry in adjusting, modifying, maintaining, programming and running textile production equipment.
  • B.Sc in a relevant engineering field.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with textiles manufacturing.
  • Strong engineering acumen to solve practical problems during textiles fabrication.
  • Flexible and collaborative mindset, willing to work in a fast paced product and technology
  • development lab.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in process development in an R&D or early-stage environment, where objectives, deliverables, constraints and timelines are ambiguous.
  • Experience in programming pattern data to create different styles efficiently.
