The Battery Product Development team at Apple produces high-energy and highly reliable embedded battery systems for all product teams. Tightly integrated with Product Development, Operations, Industrial Design, and Reliability Testing groups, we own battery module development from initial system architecture through ramp.
Description
As a Battery Cell Engineer, you will lead engineering design and qualification efforts for new lithium rechargeable cell designs from concept to completion. Responsibilities will include: Develop performance specifications and cell design details required to meet application requirements and determine acceptability for production ramp. Work with suppliers, travel as needed, support staff and management to ensure that new product designs are developed on time and on budget. Conduct investigations, prepare related status reports for problems or issues and make recommendations as required. Research literature and industry for advanced technologies that may be applicable for next-generation cell design and work with vendor supply base to evaluate efficacy and readiness. Pursue development of intellectual property to protect technology developments and secure competitive position.
Minimum Qualifications
BS degree
Experience with battery materials and cell design development
Preferred Qualifications
10 years of relevant research / industry experience
Advanced degree (PhD) in Material Science, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related
Hands-on experience in battery assembly, teardown, testing, characterization and diagnostics
Familiarity with applicable test procedures, international standards, and certified agency requirements applicable to rechargeable lithium battery products
Familiarity with current innovative production processes applicable to lithium rechargeable cells
Experience with production of lithium batteries including statistical analysis of performance results, process capabilities, and design of experiments
Experience with performing FMEA as a methodical approach for identifying potential risks in a new or changed design /process
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $165,500 and $293,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
