The Core Network Services Operations team keeps Apple’s world-class MPLS backbone network running smoothly and efficiently. We are a global community of engineers who operate the diverse technology, protocol, and vendor stack that interconnects all facets of Apple’s network at a scale that is second to none. We’re seeking a hard-working and passionate person to join a dynamic and exciting team within Apple’s Global Networking Services. You will be skilled in cross-organizational collaboration, liaising with our internal teams and external service providers to operate and maintain the network infrastructure. In addition, you will be encouraged to develop and maintain clear documentation and procedures associated with operations and known issues. This position provides the opportunity to operate a cutting-edge, worldwide, multi-vendor network.
Description
This position requires a collaborative teammate with excellent written and verbal communication skills who will enjoy working with others around the globe to maintain the networking infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include working on tickets and break fixes, taking critical issues from and mentoring junior team members, developing network automation playbooks, maintaining and upgrading existing networks to current standards, coordinating peering expansions, and contributing to technical and procedural documentation.
In this role you will obsess over minute details and drive operational perfection in every aspect of your work to deliver the best possible customer experience. In addition to the required technical networking skills, this position will also draw on strong interpersonal skills and an individual who enjoys the dynamic nature of Apple’s environment. The candidate will report directly to the IS&T Operations Manager, with strong dotted line reporting to Global Network Services teams.
Minimum Qualifications
A minimum of 3 years of network operations experience in a large scale enterprise or service provider environment
Solid grasp of TCP/IP, BGP and various IGP protocols
Experience working in large scale network environments with ITIL Incident, Problem, or Change Management processes
BS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
Experience evaluating and leading outages to business critical infrastructure
Ability to maintain composure and customer-service focus in stressful and ambiguous situations
Proficiency in macOS, Linux, and/or other variations of UNIX operating systems
Flexibility to work early morning or late night shift patterns required
Hands-on experience with Cisco, Arista, Juniper, and/or Nokia carrier-grade routers and their respective network operating systems is preferred
Understanding of peering and/or transit networks is a bonus
Experience with configuration management and automation technologies such as Ansible, Python, Go, etc is advantageous
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $122,800 and $185,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
