The Mac system performance and architecture (SPA) team is responsible for all aspects of Mac performance, encompassing hardware (CPU, GPU, DRAM, storage), software (OS, drivers, applications), and other system characteristics (thermals, power, acoustics). This includes performance modeling, guiding architecture tradeoffs, performance verification, performance debugging, and workload characterization. We are seeking a Datacenter System Administrator to oversee a compute farm and a collection of end-user systems for the SPA team.

Description
As the Datacenter System Administrator on the SPA team, you’ll be the mastermind behind setting up, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting all the data center infrastructure and end-user systems, like servers, desktops, storage, network devices, and software applications. You’ll create standard processes and procedures, making sure everything runs smoothly, from setting up and taking down systems and software stacks to upgrading OS and application versions and hardware.
We often need to upgrade OS and application versions and hardware at a faster pace than other teams. You’ll get to work on innovative new software and hardware across Mac, iPad, and iPhone. You’ve got a solid background in data center operations, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
Physical demands associated with this position include occasionally lifting & carrying machines into a server rack. (up to 40 lbs). Occasional domestic travel required (1-4 times a year).
Minimum Qualifications
Proven ability (a minimum of 3 years) with installation, configuration, and maintenance of data center infrastructure and end-user systems, including servers, desktop systems, storage systems, network devices, and software applications
Demonstrated ability (a minimum of 3 years) with system administration (MacOS or Linux)
Experience with data center management tools, including monitoring and automation software
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree or equivalent years of experience in System Administration or related roles.
Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with multi-functional teams
Experience providing customer support to technical and non-technical users across more than one physical site
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and propose solutions to leadership
Passion to learn new technology, hardware and software
