Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary spatial computer that seamlessly blends digital content with your physical space. It will allow us to do the things we love in ways never before possible — all while staying connected to the people around us. Are you ready to explore a new application domain with a talented and collaborative team? Apple is seeking for software and machine learning engineers to help us build data-driven interactive applications. This team is working with some of Apple's most advanced technologies including spatial computing and augmented reality (AR) offered in visionOS. As a member of our creative organization, you will have a uniquely rewarding opportunity to craft future products that will delight and inspire millions of people every day! The ideal engineer for this role is comfortable working in a dynamic and creative team charged with exploring an uncharted and rapidly evolving domain. You will be researching and developing an entirely new application paradigm - a challenge that will demand rapid experimentation and prototyping without sacrificing code quality or attention to detail. The role will be at the intersection of AR/VR technologies, data visualization, and data science & machine learning. You'll need a keen understanding of the state of the art in interactive 3D applications, coupled with a solid background in data analysis, and an ambition to discover what the future holds in this space.

Description

As part of our Data team, you will be responsible for researching and implementing novel methods to explore and analyze complex datasets by leveraging the unique benefits of Spatial Computing. This role will involve iterative prototyping of immersive analytics applications that run on Apple Vision Pro, and tight collaboration with various internal data stakeholders. These prototypes will include both traditional unsupervised machine learning techniques and modern state-of-the-art Large Language Model (LLM) approaches to deepen our understanding of the data. The insights generated through this process will contribute to the improvement of our department’s data collection operations, to the overall quality of the data being collected and used by our machine learning algorithms, and to the debugging of our data processing pipelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science of equivalent field
  • Background in data visualization, visual analytics, or immersive analytics
  • Familiarity with Python development for data science, in particular for exploratory data analysis processes including clustering and dimensionality reduction
  • Proficiency in Unity 3D, Unreal Engine, or RealityKit (Swift) for the development of 3D applications
  • Familiarity with 3D math, linear algebra, 3D geometry, graphics, and rendering
  • Fundamental knowledge of software engineering technologies, methodologies, and practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science with focus on immersive analytics
  • First-author publications to major academic conferences or journals in the field of data visualization or immersive analytics
  • Proficiency in Swift development, with experience developing applications for Apple Vision Pro
  • Experience integrating machine learning based approaches for data summarization, outlier detection, and hypothesis generation and testing
  • Interest or proficiency in UI/UX design
