Our Audio technology team develops and integrates new audio features for Appleʼs products. We are a team of diverse engineers coming together to create prototypes of innovative audio technologies and guiding their implementation into Appleʼs products. We work openly and collaboratively throughout Appleʼs deeply-connected engineering and product development teams. We are looking for an Applied Acoustic ML Engineer to help take our products to the next level. Could this be you?

Description

The primary activity of the Applied Acoustic ML Engineer is to productize novel technologies in audio perception and understanding. Activities will include (but aren’t limited to) adapting, developing, and deploying the machine learning models behind new audio experiences. This will work will require work in data generation, experience prototyping, system profiling, performance evaluation, as well as communicating this work across broad cross-functional workgroups.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Most of our engineers have advanced degrees in Computer Science, Electrical engineering, Acoustics, Signal Processing, Electronics or an equivalent field, but if youʼve followed a different path to expertise in acoustics or sound quality, we still want to hear from you.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good understanding of audio and audio signals
  • Proficiency in Python and PyTorch and/or other ML training frameworks
  • Understanding of audio signal processing (EQ, Dynamic range compression)
  • Proficiency in modern AI/ML: self-supervised learning techniques, transformer models as applied to media signals, contrastive learning
  • Experience developing audio prototypes using Max
  • Experience shipping high-complexity, high-volume consumer electronics
