Senior Software Engineer

In Mixed Reality, we are building the next generation of devices and infrastructure for training and in-field deployment of in-field scenarios like project IVAS (Integrated Visual Augmentation System.) Mixed Reality is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to work on the Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS). The United States Army has contracted Microsoft to prototype hardware, software, and cloud solutions for IVAS. The program leverages technology from HoloLens to design a heads-up display that pushes the boundaries of mixed reality devices. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing software for the core experience and extensibility that powers these devices.   You will get to work on a small agile team of engineers with diverse skillsets and experience creating next-generation Mixed Reality technologies.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience.
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of relevant professional software development experience building system or lower-level software with C++.
• 2+ years of experience in writing performance-critical code, performance analysis, and optimization.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience building system or lower-level software with C++.
  • OR master’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience building system or lower-level software with C++.
  • OR equivalent experience.
• Experience with software architecture and API (application programming interface) design.
• Experience with low-level OS (operating system) integration.
• Knowledge of 3D math and linear algebra.
• Experience with graphics APIs such as Vulkan or DirectX.
• Experience with multi-threaded and multi-process software development.
• Experience with Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

• Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
• Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
• Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
• Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook.
• Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
