What to Expect

The Cell Engineering team at Tesla San Diego is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Technician to support cell prototype builds, component and cell validation and testing, equipment installation, and failure root cause analysis.

What You’ll Do

The technician will support all aspects of cell pilot line activities, including cell builds, metrology, abuse testing, and failure analysis. Focus areas will include, but are not limited to:

  • Cell assemblyIn-process quality measurements and documentation
  • Candidate will be able to understand all build processes and participate in cell builds
  • Keeping cell production equipment and its processes running while maintaining high-quality targets
  • Candidate will be responsible for finding ways to keep cell equipment and its processes running efficiently
  • Timely cell failure and root cause analysis to identify and resolve assembly defects, enabling production of a quality, defect-free product
  • Candidate will have a good understanding of cell quality in terms of finding the root cause for cell failures on the production line
  • Follow safety guidelines to execute component and cell-level tests. Assist with pre- and post-test metrology
  • Assist with equipment setup and validation processes
  • Conduct and report cell validation/abuse testing
  • Candidate should be able to run test procedures to validate cells and/or their components, including: Burst test, Pull test, Torque test. CT scans
  • General abuse tests and effectively collaborate with engineers and peer groups for timely completion of assigned tasks
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working with electro-mechanical assemblies in a dynamic, fast-paced engineering development environment
  • Experienced in MS Office with excellent Excel skills
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to document metrics during the assembly process, execute in-process inspections using measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, multimeters, is a must
  • Strong desire to learn advanced characterization and analysis techniques for quality checks, such as microscopes and X-ray equipment
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, with excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proactive, independent thinker capable of executing tasks with minimal supervision

    Expected Compensation

    $23.18 - $47.88/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
